About Hospital Happenings
As part of Change Day 2017, Geneva Elevator’s client, Eilish Wilkes, encourages all Kiwis to join her #ChangeDayNZ pledge to support children in need of care by gifting her book, Hospital Happenings, to a child in hospital or a child they know with health concerns.
The book gives children the comfort of knowing they’re not alone and helps them feel less afraid of hospital visits. It walks a little girl called Eilish through several basic medical procedures that most children will experience at some point during their childhood.
About Eilish Wilkes
Inspired by her own story, Eilish wrote Hospital Happenings from her experience as a two year old when she was diagnosed with an irremovable cancerous brain tumour that caused her to lose most of her vision. Eilish underwent neurosurgery and eighteen months of extensive chemotherapy, as well as other treatments throughout her childhood. During this time, Eilish says she would have loved to have been comforted by a children’s book like Hospital Happenings.
Eilish is now twenty one years old and although her health remains a constant battle, she fills her time with writing and giving back to various organisations like Canteen and Child Cancer Foundation, and was awarded the ‘Youth Spirit Award’ at the 2016 Attitude Awards. “I live and enjoy every day to its fullest potential, and continue moving forward with hope and positivity no matter what challenges I face.” – Eilish Wilkes
With the support of Geneva Elevator, Eilish is working towards achieving her goals and aspirations. Geneva Elevator enables people with injury, disability and health concerns to integrate into the community and participate in the workforce through rehabilitation, support and skills training.
Everyone can gift Eilish’s book, Hospital Happenings, by joining her pledge. The idea behind Change Day is for everyone, especially those in the healthcare industry, to make a pledge that will help improve the healthcare experience for every Kiwi.
Between now and 31 October 2017, you can join Eilish’s #ChangeDayNZ pledge to support children in need of care by gifting her book for just $23, excluding Postage and Handling Fees, by clicking the ‘Add To Cart’ button at the top of the page.
